Laundry & Mudrooms

These are the spaces that quietly keep a home running. Mudrooms catch the backpacks, muddy shoes, and everyday chaos. Laundry rooms handle the never-ending pile of towels, pet blankets, and clothes that somehow multiplies overnight. But practical doesn't have to mean boring.

You'll find everything from hardworking mudroom drop zones to beautifully organized laundry rooms with smart storage, durable finishes, and thoughtful details. Whether you're dreaming of custom cabinetry, hidden hampers, drying racks, or a room that actually makes laundry a little less painful, you'll find inspiration for creating spaces that work as hard as you do.

The Wallpaper That Looks Like It Was Made for My House

For years I've wanted a laundry room that felt a little less like a utility space and a little more like an actual room. When I found this wallpaper, I immediately stopped scrolling. The orange cat looks so much like Percy and the dog looks suspiciously like Huck. Add in the wildflowers, birds, and deep green background, and it feels less like wallpaper and more like something that belongs here already.

I'm planning to use it as the starting point for the entire room. The goal is a hardworking laundry space with hidden pet details, plenty of storage, and just enough personality to make folding towels slightly less annoying.

If a room has to be functional, it might as well make you smile every time you walk into it.

The Leave It Here Room

Laundry & Mudroom Inspired by a $1.7 Million Texas Home

This laundry room proves utility spaces don't have to be boring. The combination of teal painted cabinetry, citrus botanical wallpaper, and a built-in mudroom bench with storage turns an everyday chore zone into one of the most memorable spaces in the house.

I love how this room mixes practical function with unexpected personality. The patterned peel-and-stick wallpaper, black framed glass door, and wall-mounted coat hooks create visual interest while still keeping everything organized. Even the laundry area feels intentionally designed instead of hidden away.

What makes this space work so well is the balance between color and structure. The bright walls and playful wallpaper are grounded by clean white cabinetry, warm wood flooring, and simple built-in storage. Small details like the striped bench cushion, woven storage baskets, and matte black hardware make the room feel collected instead of themed.

Karen's note: Most mudrooms focus so much on storage that they forget about personality. This room reminds me that the spaces we use every single day deserve a little joy too. If you're already walking through it ten times a day, it might as well make you smile.

The Drop Zone Room

Built-In Laundry Room Inspired by a Thoughtfully Designed Family Home

Some rooms are meant to impress guests. This one is meant to make everyday life easier. The combination of deep blue-green cabinetry, built-in bench storage, and brass wall hooks creates a hardworking space that keeps clutter contained while still feeling warm and welcoming.

What I love most is how much function is packed into a relatively small footprint. The custom mudroom lockers, drawer storage bench, and floating wood shelves provide a place for everything without making the room feel crowded. Even practical items like coats, boots, and laundry supplies become part of the design when they're given a dedicated home.

The details are what make the room feel finished. The patterned wallpaper, warm brass hardware, woven storage baskets, and front-load washer and dryer work together to create a space that's both useful and beautiful. It's proof that utility rooms don't have to feel like an afterthought.

Karen's note: Every house needs a place where real life can land. Shoes get kicked off, backpacks get dropped, dog leashes end up hanging on a hook, and somehow everyone passes through on their way to somewhere else. The best mudrooms don't just store things—they make everyday life feel a little less chaotic.
